 DéfinitionThis type of accommodation is specially equipped to take in 2 to 11 children, aged from 4 to 13, during the school holidays, (this can include the host family's children if they take part in the gite's activities).
The children should have access to the entire house and garden. According to the host family, the children can take part in one or several activities of their choice (cycling, handicraft, riding...).
The owner must have the First Aid Diploma "Brevet National de Premier Secours" (B.N.P.S) and if there are over 5 children, "Brevet d'Aptitude à la Fonction d'Animateur" (B.A.F.A), qualification to work for a children's holiday camp.
The Children's Gites are certified, either by the DDASS (Direction Départementale de l'Action Sanitaire et Sociale) the Department's Social and Sanitary Organisation, or by the DDJS (Direction Départementale de Jeunesse et des Sports) the Department's Organisation for Youth and Sports.
