Gréoux les Bains
MORE ABOUT GREOUXAt the gateway to the Verdon Natural Regional Park and very near the Luberon Natural Regional Park, Gréoux-les-Bains is the whole of Provence in one village which Jean Giono liked to describe as « the Verdon's romantic oasis ».
With its colourful houses covered in canal tiles, its narrow streets which protect you from the sun and the mistral, its rue Grande with its stalls and shops, its church topped by a wrought iron belfry, its wash-houses and fountains, Gréoux-les-Bains is a typical Provencal village, a poem filled with history to discover. Gréoux would not be Gréoux without it « Spa », which made the village famous, and today it is the 4th spa establishment in France.
A haven of peace and quiet dedicated to relaxation and a touristic destination in the heart of Provence listed as commune of Europe, Station Verte de Vacances, Ville et Métiers d’Art, Site Remarquable du Goût et village fleuri 2 Fleurs…

HERITAGE |
- Notre Dame des Ormeaux : Romanesque architecture, built in XIth century to mid-XIIth century, various transformations from XIVth to XVIth century in a Gothic style. The 1821 belfry was built with the stones from the Saint-Sébastien gate, one of the 4 gates in the XVIth century rampart.
- Chapelle Saint-Sébastien : erected in honour of the patron saint of the village, it is no longer a place of worship but is sometimes used for exhibitions.
- Chapelle Sainte-Croix : built between 1696 and 1700, its origin doubtless dates back to the capucins of Riez.
- XIIIth century rampart : it only protected the Castle and its buildings, the houses were built outside this enclosure. The Vieil Horloge gate is best example and the Castelet gate, just behind it housed the administration and the Lord's trusted men.
- XVIth century Rampart : this surrounded the whole town but only the Valensole Gate is still visible. The rue des Remparts is part of its layout. Passage de l’Hôpital : passage hewn from the rock where the pilgrims could find shelter and a bowl of soup offered by the religious order.
- Rue Rompe Cuou : literally « Break Bottom », this street was paved with Verdon pebbles which were very slippery from having been polished by the water.
- Rue Esquichecoude : so narrow that you can touch each side with your elbows.
