THE SECOND BIGGEST DAM IN EUROPEThe dam with its 1.2 billion m3 of water stretches over 3.000 ha and supplies 16 hydroelectric plants, or 10 % of French hydroelectric production and 50 % of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region's production!
The dam also irrigates 150.000 ha of crops via the Durance canal and supplies Marseille and many districts of the Var and the coast with water. These 3.000 ha of water held between the superb Morgon and Dormillouse mountain massifs make an ideal place for lake sports and leisure activities: 80 km of shore, equipped and supervized beaches for swimming, saling, windsurfing and kite-surf spots, and a paradise for fishermen who fish for pike among other fish.
And all of this at 800 m with water which is often at 23°C in summer!
