MORE ABOUT THIS "VILLAGE DE CARACTERE"From the prehistoric and archaeological point of view, Mane is a site filled with the remains of aqueducts and necropolises. Around year 55 AD, Rome had already created a provincial market near the Via Domitia.
Today, the traveller sees first a shady rock on which the silhouettes of the 31 metre high belfry and the medieval citadel, are the only feudal fort remaining intact in Haute-Provence: it can be seen by walking up its pebble-paved streets and around its walls, with the machicolated gate, the corner bartizans and the wide view of the valley of Mane.
In the old town, listed as a « Village et Cité de Caractère », ramparts, monuments, mansions and old houses are built in "Mane stone' from the nearby quarries, which gives harmony to the village.

THE PRIORY OF SALAGON | It is rare for a site to have as many assets : a monument, research centre, exhibition, expression and demonstration venue, the Priory of Salagon is a witness to regional heritage.
The Benedictine priory still has its XIIth century double-nave church where classical music ensembles come to play in the summer. A Renaissance prior's dwelling, two towers and XVIth and XIXth century outhouses complete this heritage which is a listed Historical Monument.
In addition to its well-filled library, the demonstration workshopw, temporary or permanent exhibitions linked to agriculture, the visitor can wander around the gardens which illustrate the special relationship between Man and the plants through the ages.
The Simples Garden holds all the flowers which were useful to the traditional society of Haute-Provence, the Garden of Scents subtly mixes the senses and plants, the Garden of Modern Times shows what plants from all over the world have brought to our daily lives, the Garden of the Downy Oak is an initiation to the plants of Haute-Provence, and lastly the Medieval Garden holds pre-Renassance plants.
